Ukrainian berries and fruits popularity grows abroad
For January-April, 2017 the Ukrainian producers of fruit and berries have increased the volume of product sales abroad. So, the country exported 6,2 thous. tons of apples which added to the same period in 2016 10,5% (in volume) more, while the cost of the exported production in January-April, 2017 has grown by 19,3%. Ukraine exported 11,3 thous. tons of fruits and nuts that is 83% more, than for January-April, 2016, and the total cost has grown by 76% to 14,6 USD million

Global lentil market has grown by 2,5 times over the last 15 years
The trend towards the growth of niche markets has received its confirmation once again. According to the International Trade Center, the global lentil market has increased almost threefold, compared with 2001.

Production of sunflower oil increased by 42 % during the first four months of 2017
In January-April of 2017, the production of unrefined sunflower oil in Ukraine increased on 42 % by 1.9 mln tons, compared with the same period last year.

Exports of pork to Georgia within five months were more than for the whole year of 2016
According to the data provided by the State Statistics Service, in January-May 2017 export of the Ukrainian pork to Georgia amounted to USD 4.2 million. For the whole year of 2016 export of pork to Georgia totaled only USD 2.6 million. Therefore, for the first five months of the current year Ukraine exported pork by 65% more than for the whole previous year in total.

Prices for pigs are growing at a record pace
This year an atypical situation has been created at the pork market. Every week prices are beating the records, and as of June 16 the cost of bacon breed pigs in terms of live weight was 44-46 UAH/kg that is 10% higher than their cost at the end of May.

Sowing of millet is record low this year
According to the data provided by the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food, this year Ukrainian farmers have sown only 54 thous. hectares of millet that is twice less than seeding in 2016 and 2015, by 109 and 112 thous. hectares respectively.

Geography of the European agro-food import
According to the International Trade Center (ITC) in 2016 the agricultural import of EU-28 amounted to USD 521 billion. Germany is the main consumer of agricultural products with its share of 17.1% in terms of the total EU agricultural import or USD 89.2 billion. The leading consumers of agricultural products in Europe also include the UK (with its share of 11.7%), France - 11% and the Netherlands 10.6%. In total, these four countries are purchasing 50.4% of the whole agricultural products imported by the EU constituting USD 263.1 billion.
