The volume of world trade in rye has fallen to a record low
In 2016, the volume of world trade in rye was the lowest for the last 15 years and amounted to only 960 thous. tons. The largest exporters were Poland, Germany and Canada with shares of 40, 20 and 13%, respectively. Since 2013, the volume of world trade in rye decreases annually by 20%.
Ukraine isn’t a significant player on the global rye market. Last year, the share of our state amounted to only 0.6% of total world exports. Ukrainian agrarians harvest 400-600 thous. tons of rye annually, but most of it is used to meet domestic needs. This crop isn’t very popular among Ukrainian farmers, since it is less marginal compared to the rest.
