Production of spreads has been declined up to 34%
In January - February this year, Ukraine has produced 5.04 ths t of spreads and milk-fat blends that is nearly 34% less than the similar indicators of the previous year. After introduction of the Russian sanctions domestic production was reoriented from cheese to milk powder and butter, that resulted into increased offer of these products on Ukrainian market. At the same time, the devaluation of hryvna and import duties on imported product introduced last year, coused significant increase of process for palm oil, which is used in spreads production. Thus, costs of their production have dramatically increased. This year production volumes of other milk-contained products have also slightly decreaseed – on 4.5% (compared to the previous year) up to 22.4 ths t.
"Nowadays, we have an active discussion about labeling of milk-contained products. It is proposed to adopt a Draft Law 3043-1 “On milk and dairy products", which introduces a concept of "milk-contained” product, sets special requirements concerning their labeling and implementation, as well as liability for violation of these requirements, - said Alina Zharko, expert on livestock markets of the Association "Ukrainian Agribusiness Club". - Adoption of this draft law will provide the right of consumers to receive complete and reliable information about the quality of food products, will prevent unfair competition on the market of milk and dairy products that will have a positive social and economic impact”.
