Spring sowing can be disrupted due to impossibility of seeds certification
Members of the Association ‘Ukrainian Agribusiness Club’, American Chamber of Commerce in Ukraine, Ukrainian Agrarian Confederation as well as trade unions operating in the area of seed growing and seedling, in particular Seed Association of Ukraine and Ukrainian Seed Partnership uniting and representing interests of the leading market seed participants submitted an open letter to Volodymyr Hroisman, the Prime Minister of Ukraine, with a request not to jeopardize spring sowing for 2017. A reason for the possible disruption of sowing is inability to certify seed materials.
In connection with liquidation of the State Agricultural Inspection as well as establishment of the Certification State Enterprise, certification of seeds is going to suspend for the period from 5 December 2016 to early February 2017 which is unacceptable posing a threat of disrupting the spring sowing campaign for 2017.
‘This particular time period from December to February is the most active in certification of the seeds, both produced in Ukraine and imported’, stated in the letter.
Agricultural community asks Volodymyr Hroisman to address the issue and take necessary measures in order to ensure continuous certification of the seeds in Ukraine, inter alia, by virtue of facilitating establishment of Certification State Enterprise to the extent possible as well as imposing functions of certification of seeds on the State Agricultural Inspection until Certification State Enterprise commences its proper operation within the period from December 2016 to February 2017.
Copies of the application letter were furnished to Taras Kutovyi, the Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine, and Yurii Zastavnyi, Deputy Head of the State Agricultural Inspection of Ukraine.
