The seasonal peak of vegetable production ends in Ukraine
As predicted, in September the vegetable prices showed a downward price trend. The onion fell in price most of all (-9%), while potato and beet prices decreased by 1%. The offer increase of apples led to the price drop of 18%. Meat and milk increased in price by 2%-4%. The group of grocery products has remained unchanged.
In October, the price fluctuations for vegetables are expected, as there may be slight increase of supply in some regions of the country, so price volatility will be in the range of 3-5%. The price of apples will fluctuate within 4-6%.
The price for more expensive consumer products, such as beef, pork and chicken, is also unlikely to be stable: “This is due to the fact that purchasing prices for pork and chicken fell by an average of 3-5%, which would lead to price decline of the final product. Secondly, the seasonal implementation of cattle slaughter is higher, which means the increase of supply in autumn. However, the UAH devaluation, which is observed today on the market and the price growth for beef, will support prices on related markets. Milk prices will continue to grow within 2-5% under the influence of seasonal factors. Bakery prices will start to show the decrease due to seasonal production increase,” - commented Evgeniy Dvornik, analyst of agricultural markets of the Association “Ukrainian Agribusiness Club”.
