This year the yield of peas is lower by 20 %
This year, Ukrainian farmers will gather the yield of peas from the area of 405 thous. ha, that is 70% more than the last year – that will be the highest rate in the last 15 years. The increase of sowings was caused by the growth in demand for peas and legumes on foreign markets, first of all in Southern Asia. As of July 25, 84% of peas has been harvested in Ukraine – the yield amounted 25.1 hwt/ha, that is 20% lower than the same period last year. The primary reason for the decline in the yield of peas this year is the weather factor, namely the drought that was observed in June and the first half of July in the central and southern part of Ukraine. Based on this year's yield, the gross harvesting of peas is projected at around 1.02 mln tons, that is 36% more than the last year.
