Ukrzaliznytsia offering discounts for through transportation
The State Administration of Railway Transport of Ukraine (Ukrzaliznytsia) has offered discounts for some transit services.
In particular, the railway carrier announced a 50% price cut for through transportation of all freights heading from or to Western Europe across the Chop-Dyakovo checkpoint.
According to Ukrzaliznytsia officials, they had to take this step as this year's volume of through transportation across Chop-Dyakovo has reduced by 95% year-over-year.
Such tariff policy will be in force by the end of 2009.
Over 5 months of 2009, freight traffic by railway fell by 32.2% against the same period of 2008 to 148.5 million tons.
