Ukrainian agrarians threatening scarcity of mineral fertilizers
Because of the increasing prices for fertilizers in Ukraine agricultural associations ask the leaders of the State to cancel the special duty on mineral fertilizers. Co-chairs of the All- Ukrainian Agrarian Forum appealed to the Prime Minister of Ukraine Mykola Azarov with such a request on behalf of the tens of thousands of business entities of agroindustrial complex of Ukraine.
In particular, the letter said that the sale price on the most common fertilizer - ammonium nitrate – over the last month has increased up from 2800-2900 UAH/t to 3500 UAH/t or 25%, and the prices of these products for agricultural enterprises grew up to 3500 UAH/t. The same time, when for spring field work is necessary around 1 million tons of nitrogen fertilizers in physical weight, it is going to be shipped February-March not more than 40%.
" The situation is further complicated by the fact that even if the payment of mineral fertilizers is done in December - January the agrarians can wait for their actual delivery until February-March 2014. Moreover, because of shutting down of several chemical enterprises during the autumn months, the very real is the prospect for deficiency of mineral fertilizers under the harvest of 2014”, - said the President of Ukrainian Agrarian Confederation Leonid Kozachenko.
"It will result into significant reducing in fertilization under the main crops, decreasing of their productivity and, consequently, falling down the gross harvest of grains and technical crops, and further, the gross production of agriculture and the volume of foreign currency revenue from export," - added the President of the Association "Ukrainian Agribusiness Club" Alex Lissitsa.
The signatories of the appeal are convinced, that the most effective measure to prevent such negative scenarios is the abolition of the special duty on mineral fertilizers. It should be also held a conciliation meeting under the chair of the Head of Government.to decide on the volume and prices of fertilizers supply to agricultural commodity producers.
The letter addressed to Mr. Azarov was signed by the President of the Association "Union of Poultry Producers of Ukraine” Mr. Oleksandr Bakumenko, the President of Ukrainian Agrarian Confederation Mr. Leonid Kozachenko, the President of the Association" Ukrainian Agribusiness Club» Mr. Alex Lissitsa, the President of the Association of Farmers and Private Landowners of Ukraine Mr. Mykola Myrkevych and the Chairman of the Agrarian Union of Ukraine Mr. Gennadiy Novikov.
