Ukrainian, Chinese agriculture ministers find much in common

The agrarian sectors of Ukraine and China augment each other, which make cooperation between them mutually beneficial.

Agricultural Policy and Food Minister of Ukraine Mykola Prysiazhniuk has said about this at a meeting with Chinese Minister of Agriculture Han Changfu in Beijing Wednesday, a Ukrinform correspondent in Beijing reports.

“Agricultural sectors of our countries are mutually complementary and we are not competitors,” Prysiazhniuk stressed.

The Ukrainian Minister called a credit at USD 3 billion extended by Eximbank of China as a “central contract” in bilateral relations. He noted that USD 1.5 billion according to the contract terms is planned to be spent on the purchase of Chinese up-to-date equipment and technologies, which will be used for processing, logistics and ensuring transportation of grain crops to China.

Prysiazhniuk said that during the oncoming visit of Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych to China in December this year, it is expected to organize an exhibition of agricultural products and goods, which Ukraine purchases under this contract.

“The Chinese government and our ministry always regard relations with Ukraine from the viewpoint of perspective and continuity,” Han Changfu noted, adding that “the parties have a very strong foundation, very high mutual complementarity and a great wish for cooperation.” He, in particular, assured that the government of his country will support boosting of import of agricultural products to China, as well as investments of Chinese structures in agrarian projects in Ukraine and creation of joint-stock enterprises.

The third meeting of the subcommittee on cooperation in agriculture was held following a meeting between the ministers. A part of the issues, which were discussed there, will be submitted to a meeting of the “large” Ukrainian-Chinese Commission of cooperation, which will be held in Beijing under the chairmanship of First Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine Serhiy Arbuzov and Vice Premier of the State Council of China Ma Kai September 24.
