Ukraine may raise excise for beer, spirits, vodka
A group of MPs has suggested the parliament raising excises for beer twice - to UAH 1.2/liter, and for vodka and spirits - by 47% to UAH 50/liter of 100% spirit (USD 1 - UAH 7.98).
The relevant bills were registered in the Verkhovna Rada mainly by BYuT faction MPs.
The document authors say the aim of increasing the excises is to curb consumption of strong drinks and beer.
On July 2009, Ukraine increased the excise-duty for beer by 93.5% to UAH 0.6/liter, for ethyl alcohol and spirits by 58% to UAH 34/liter of 100% spirit.
