Ukraine developing portside elevator program
The Transport and Communications Ministry hosted a meeting on the elaboration of a program to build portside elevators and develop river transport of Ukraine with the use of the Dnieper River as a transport throughway, UKRINFORM learned from the ministry press-service.
According to Transport and Communications Deputy Minister Mykhailo Chubay, the volume of grain traffic in Ukraine has been growing from year to year: last year it posted 30 million tons of cereals. This volume is expected to double in five years.
He noted that new foreign grain traders have entered the Ukrainian market, who do not yet have own transshipment capacities.
"There are companies interested in investing, and we have to give them proposals on the creation of new grain transshipment capacities. We will achieve a positive result under such conditions," Chubay said.
The meeting participants decided to elaborate a scheme of the available and possible capacities in seaports for the construction of grain terminals.
