Ukraine decreases grain reserves 7%
The Ukrainian Grain Association (UGA) announced on Sept. 16 that grain reserves dropped 7% as of Sept. 1.
The UGA said agricultural enterprises and grain storing and processing enterprises stocked 25.9 million tonnes of grain and were down 7% compared to the same period last year. According to the State Committee of Statistics of Ukraine, the reserves included 15.8 million tonnes of wheat, 7.1 million tonnes of barley, 500,000 tonnes of corn (maize), and 900,000 tonnes of rye.
Directly agrarian enterprises stocked 15.3 million tonnes of grains, a decrease of 9% compared to the previous year, including 8.9 million tonnes of wheat, 4.1 million tonnes of barley, 300,000 tonnes of corn (maize), and 500,000 tonnes of rye. Grain storing and processing enterprises stocked 10.6 million tonnes of grain, down 4% compared to Sept.1, 2008.
According to the data of the State Committee of Statistics, as of Sept.1 sunflower seed reserves in Ukraine totaled 400,000 tonnes.
