Japan is ready to increase food imports from Ukraine
Ukraine could provide Japan with quality food products, said the representatives of the Ukrainian Ministry of Agriculture during a recent meeting with a delegation from Japan.
"The Japanese partners are interested in reviving the trade in both agriculture, and and food industry", sources in the Ukrainian Ministry have told.
Cuurently Japan is ready to expand trade cooperation with Ukrainia, however, it still has some concerns regarding with products’ safety.
With only 15% of the total land area suitable for agriculture, and the population more than 130 million people, Japan is heavily dependent on exports of agricultural and food products. At present the country has imported large amounts of soy, wheat, corn, meat and meat products, as well as other food products, including vegetables, fruit. It is only self-sufficient in seafood, some of which are exported.
Until now Ukraine does not have stable trade relations with Japan mainly exporting milk powder with the tolal volume of $19.6 million, at the same time importing seafood, soy sauces and caviar, totaling $1.9 million.
According to the Ukrainian Ministry of Agriculeture the official Tokyo soon is planning to send its inspectors in Ukraine which will estimate the possibility of food safety level in the country.
