High prices to decrease fertilizer use in Ukraine
The positive effect of the increasing use of fertilizers in Ukraine during recent years can change to the opposite tendency if an imbalance in prices for plant growing production and fertilizers continues to rise, the association "Ukrainian club of Agrarian business" declared on September 25.
Since June, prices for fertilizers in Ukraine have increased by 20-40%, at the same time, prices for most grain and oilseeds have decreased by 30-40%. As a result, large numbers of agricultural enterprises will not have enough funds for purchases of fertilizers.
From 2005 to 2007, the volume of fertilizer use has increased from 32 to 51 kg/ha, or by 60%, but this figure remains very low when compared to 141 kg/ha in 1990, according to Vladimir Lapa, the head of the experts group of the association.
