EU starts checks on Ukrainian milk producers
Inspectors from the Food and Veterinary Office (FVO) of the European Commission's Directorate-General for Health and Consumers (DG-SANCO) arrived in Ukraine on September 7 to conduct an audit of Ukrainian milk products, according to the press service of the State Committee for Veterinary Medicine.
The goal of the EU inspectors is to confirm the efficiency of concerned government agencies involved in the issues of veterinary medicine and the protection of human health. The inspectors should check whether the country's safety control systems related to milk production comply with EU requirements.
Last year's visit by FVO inspectors, which was made in June-July 2008, included the attendance of Ukrainian milk processing enterprises and state veterinary labs that control the safety of milk products.
