Pork export dropped in 4.5 times
In the first quarter of 2016 Ukraine exported only 0.9 ths t of pork, which is in 4.5 times less than the similar figures of the previous year. This reduction happened primarily due to the prohibition of pork exports to Russia introduced on December 25, 2015. After losing the Russian market, main countries for sales of Ukrainian pork became Armenia with a share of 55.3%, Hong Kong – 25%, and Georgia - 12.5%. However, Ukrainian producers could not compensate the Russian market in full volume. Instead, the import of pork in the first quarter of this year has increased by 24% and amounted to 0.97 ths t. Thus, Ukraine slowly comes back to the status of country-net importer of pork.
