Export of mutton and goats’ meat has increased fourfold
According to information published by the State Fiscal Service of Ukraine, export value of mutton and goat’s meat has raised fourfold and reached 45k USD in 1H2016 comparing to 1H2015. In natural volume export has declined by 11% and reached 8 tons (9 tons in 1H2015). The data marks prices’ upward move on international markets, particularly in Pacific region caused by weak supply of cattle and mutton meat. Major destination of mutton and goat’s meat became Jordan having 82.2% of Ukrainian export (37 k USD).
Export of live animals has raised in 3.6 times and reached 93k USD during 1H 2016 comparing to 1H 2015 (+67k USD).
The FTA agreement of Ukraine with the EU allows national producers to export in non-tariff framework up to 1.5k tons per annum, but during action of the agreement zero tons of mutton and goat’s meat were supplied to the EU. Major barrier to EU destination for Ukrainian producers is high cost of certification for meat industry entities; as a result companies are not able to export.
