Crimea produces insignificant part of agricultural crops - expert
Temporary loss of Crimea will not tell on the food provision of Ukraine. Director General of the Association Ukrainian Agribusiness Club Volodymyr Lapa told a press conference at Ukrinform Thursday, a Ukrinform correspondent reports.
“As regards production of crops, the Crimean share is insignificant and if we have no possibility to use those resources, this will not tell on internal consumption volumes, in other words, this will not threaten the food provision of Ukraine,” Lapa said.
According to him, in agricultural production last year only 1.2% of crop production fell on Crimea, sunflower seeds - 1%, rape - 0.7%, potatoes - 1.8%. This percentage is substantially higher only as regards vegetables and fruits- about 5%.
Lapa believes that lack of Crimean vegetables and fruits may be compensated at the expense of products from other southern regions of Ukraine.
