Sugar output 225,000 tons
Ukrainian sugar refineries have produced 225,500 tons of beet sugar, which is 88% more than by this date last year, the UkrSugar association reported.
This year 42 sugar refineries are in operation, compared to 36 as of October 5, 2008.
The agricultural policy ministry predicts sugar beet harvest of 12 million tons, and sugar output of 1.5 million tons.
Experts estimate home market capacity at 1.8 - 2 million tons of sugar a year.
