Russia increases foodstuffs imports in September
Russia has significantly increased the imports of dairy products in September. According to the Federal Customs Service (FCS) of Russia the growth in September amounted to 34,4% - to US$95,2 million in value terms.
At the same time the imports of alcoholic beverages and soft drinks increased by 30,3% and amounted to $US139,8 million, compared to September 2008.
Experts believe that the imports milk could rise in anticipation of further price increases for milk, as well as alcohol and tobacco due to excise tax increase from 1 January 2010.
"Since July milk stock price has risen by 40%”, - according to analysts.
Sugar imports in September 2009 compared to August decreased by 23,2% to 32,7 million dollars in value terms, while vegetable oil - by 0,4% - to 64,6 million dollars, and vegetables - by 7,2% - to 28,3 million dollars.
In addition the imports of meat and offal increased by 0,6% to $US552,3 millions fruits and nuts - 9% - to 228,9 million dollars.
In general total imports of foodstuffs and raw materials in September 2009 rose by 9,3% - to 2,079 billion dollars compared to August.
