President of company Biscuit-Chocolate expects rise of sugar prices
Alla Kovalenko, the president of the company Biscuit-Chocolate, considers that sugar prices will be high in Ukraine in the following two years. It is explained by reduction of yield of sugar-beet, rising prices of energy carriers in Ukraine, as well as an increase of sugar prices in the world market because of bad harvest of sugar-cane in India and Brazil. Output of sugar made of sugar-beet harvested in 2009 is expected to amount to 1.5mn tons, against annual demand 2mn tons in the market. So carry-over will not be formed for 2010. According to Kovalenko, real selling price of sugar will be at least UAH 5.6-6 (EUR 0.46-0.49 USD 0.67-0.72) per kilogram.
