Economy Ministry upgrades forecast for sugar deficit
The Ukrainian Economy Ministry has upgraded its forecast for sugar deficit in the 2009/2010 marketing year from 300,000 to 800,000 tons, Deputy Economy Minister Viktor Panteleyenko has said.
He also said that the ministry had started accepting bids for the issuance of licenses for the import of raw sugar as part of Ukraine's agreement on accession to the World Trade Organization.
It is planned that around 263,000 tons of raw sugar will be imported under this quota next year.
"We're not planning to license the remaining import," he said.
Panteleyenko also said that the Ukrainian Economy Ministry had agreed with Belarus to import 100,000 tons of sugar from this country.
