Cattle population 2% down to 5.539 million heads in September
In September, the cattle population fell by 2% or 113,700 heads, compared with August, to 5,538,900 heads as of October 1, 2009, the State Statistics Committee has reported.
The cow population fell by 0.5% or 15,300 heads in September, compared with August, to 2,850,400 heads as of October 1, 2009.
In private farms, the cattle population shrank by 4% or 159,300 heads, to 3,843,800 heads as of October 1.
In agricultural enterprises, the cattle population fell by 1.9% or 32,500 heads, to 1,695,100 heads as of October 1.
Compared with October 1, 2008, the cattle population declined by 3.6% or 207,200 heads.
In particular, the cattle population fell by 6.7% in agricultural enterprises, and by 2.2% in private farms.
As to Agro Perspective earlier report, in August the cattle population decreased by 1.5% or 83,500 heads, compared with July, to 5,652,600 heads as of September 1, 2009.
